Our Story
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is RAD – Rising Above Disabilities! We offer awesome programs and camps for adults and children with developmental disabilities, much-deserved respite for their caregivers and a life-changing volunteer experience for the local community.
HISTORY
After a combined 30 years of volunteering and serving people with special needs, Camp Directors, Katie Webb and Meghan Clem, with the guidance of the Board of Directors, founded RAD Camp, a volunteer run non-profit organization for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Based in Orange County, RAD Camp has developed into one of the largest overnight camps for individuals with disabilities in Southern California!
CAMPERS
Serving children and adults with developmental disabilities, RAD Camp ensures that every participant is treated with respect, while encouraging independence, growth, and most importantly, FUN! At Camp, we focus on each camper’s ability – not disability – and are dedicated to making sure each participant has a wonderful time in a safe and caring environment. There is no requirement or restriction regarding residency and participation and no camper is ever turned away due to an inability to pay! VOLUNTEERS
RAD Camp is a volunteer run non-profit organization. At RAD, we offer one-on-one attention with a 1:1 ratio of camper to counselor, and our family of volunteer counselors and staff provide the very best care and enthusiasm for our campers. Each volunteer comes highly recommended and goes through personalized interviews and a background check. Once a volunteer arrives at Camp, they receive training in communication, behavior modification and basic first aid.
MEDICAL CARE
With a staff of insured nurse practitioners and licensed registered nurses, RAD Camp is equipped to provide necessary care, such as medicine administration, monitoring, emergency response and first aid. To ensure every camper is healthy and physically able to participate, we adhere to thorough policies and procedures, which require campers to obtain a physical examination by their private practitioner, immunizations, and doctor’s approval, prior to arriving at Camp. Accompanied by a caregiver, campers also receive a thorough medical and physical assessment on-site to evaluate their current health and well-being. If you are an RN with an amazing attitude, fun spirit and willingness to serve, please email Camp@RADCamp.org!
